Description

The MR-101S20A/B and series is a Fast Ethernet media converter designed to convert 10/100BASE-TX copper to 100BASE-BX single fiber. This media converter uses Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology, enabling Bi-Directional communication over a single fiber, doubling the capacity of your existing fiber infrastructure without having to install new cabling.
The MR-101S20A/B is manufactured with the latest IC packages from the USA or Taiwan and a high-quality fiber optical transceiver, which provides a good electrical characteristic to ensure reliable data transmission and long working life. 6 Group LED indicated lights could fully monitor the working conditions of Media Converters. It is easy for end-users to observe network operations. This media converter provides external power as default, it can be as a stand-alone unit or inserted into 14-slot Media Converter Rack Mount Chassis that allows all the media converters to be powered by a single internal power supply.
The MR-101S20A/B 10/100BASE-TX to 100BASE-BX WDM media converter provides 20km(12.4 miles) transmit distance over a single fiber at the wavelength of 1310nm-TX/1550nm-RX or 1550nm-TX/1310nm-RX. It is provided with SC, ST, and FC connector options for different users.

Gigabit Single-Fiber Conversion for Efficient Network Expansion
This 10/100/1000M Gigabit Single Fiber Media Converter is built for business networks that need dependable copper-to-fiber extension without adding unnecessary complexity to the infrastructure. It converts 10/100/1000M RJ45 Ethernet to a 1000M optical link over singlemode single fiber, helping operators extend transmission distance while reducing fiber usage through WDM technology. For buyers comparing solutions from industrial ethernet switch manufacturers, top network switch manufacturers, and optical transceiver manufacturers, this device offers a practical way to connect remote network segments, edge equipment, and control points while preserving bandwidth, lowering cabling demands, and supporting stable Gigabit data transport in professional deployment environments.

Protocol Support and Link Protection for Stable Operation
The converter is equipped with 1 x 1000M optical port and 1 x 10/100/1000M RJ45 port, with singlemode SC optics at 1310nm and transmission distance up to 20KM, making it suitable for long-range point-to-point links. It supports LFP (Link Fault Pass-Through) for faster identification of link failures on the transmitting path of the FX receiving circuitry, as well as Far End Fault on the FX port to improve fault visibility across the connection. Additional support for Auto MDI/MDI-X simplifies copper-side integration, while transparent transmission of 802.1Q VLAN tagged packets and extra-long packets up to 1600 bytes helps maintain network policies and data integrity. Combined with store-and-forward mode, these functions make the unit a strong companion to an ethernet switch, network switch, poe switch, sfp module, or transceiver deployment where monitored, standards-aware traffic handling is required.

Well-Suited for Enterprise, Industrial, and Remote Link Deployments
In real-world applications, this external power supply media converter is well-suited for enterprise backbones, campus interconnects, surveillance transmission, factory network extensions, and remote device uplinks where a single fiber path must carry bidirectional traffic efficiently. It is particularly useful in projects that need to connect copper-based LAN equipment to fiber infrastructure across buildings, control cabinets, or distributed sites without replacing the existing network switch layer. For system integrators, telecom contractors, and OEM buyers evaluating components across the broader ecosystem of industrial ethernet switch manufacturers and optical transceiver manufacturers, this model provides a reliable and operationally efficient option for distance extension, fault-aware deployment, and bandwidth preservation in stable long-distance Ethernet networks.

Key Advantages

Stable Single-Fiber Conversion
This converter provides a practical way to connect 10/100/1000M copper networks to single-mode fiber through one optical port and one RJ45 port, which helps reduce fiber usage while keeping transmission stable over distances up to 20KM. For B-end deployments, this structure is a real advantage because it supports reliable point-to-point extension without changing the existing network switch layout, and it works well with equipment from industrial ethernet switch manufacturers, top network switch manufacturers, and compatible transceiver or sfp module based systems where mixed media connections are required.

Maintenance-Friendly Network Operation
Support for LFP, Far End Fault, Auto MDI/MDI-X, VLAN tag transparency, and store-and-forward forwarding helps maintenance teams identify link issues faster and keep traffic behavior predictable in daily operation. This is a meaningful advantage in structured network environments because it reduces troubleshooting time, improves compatibility with existing ethernet switch and poe switch deployments, and gives installers a stable media conversion option that aligns with the expectations of professional integrators and optical transceiver manufacturers focused on dependable transmission.

Use Scenarios

Industrial Site Network Extension
In factory workshops, utility rooms, or outdoor equipment cabinets where copper distance is limited and fiber resources must be used carefully, operators often need to extend Ethernet links between control devices and the central network switch. This converter fits that scenario because its single-fiber WDM design reduces cabling demand, while stable Gigabit conversion and fault indication functions support practical maintenance in industrial environments that require reliable links and straightforward diagnosis.

Building and Campus Fiber Access
In office buildings, campuses, and security monitoring networks, IT teams often need to connect remote terminals, aggregation points, or legacy copper devices back to an ethernet switch room over long-distance fiber without rebuilding the full network architecture. This product is well-suited for that role because it supports transparent VLAN packet transmission, works reliably alongside equipment associated with sfp module, poe switch, and transceiver applications, and provides a practical conversion method for structured deployments that value stable performance and convenient upkeep.

FAQ

Q1. Can this media converter connect to our existing copper Ethernet equipment and fiber link?
Yes, we support integration with standard copper networks through one 10/100/1000M RJ45 port and one 1000M optical port. Our unit is intended to convert copper Ethernet to single-fiber optical transmission, making it practical for network switch and uplink deployments.

Q2. Is this model suitable for single-fiber long-distance transmission in industrial or campus networks?
The converter uses WDM technology for bi-directional communication over a single fiber, with singlemode transmission at 1310nm and a reach of 0 to 20KM. In our deployments, this is well-suited for extending an ethernet switch connection where fiber resources are limited.

Q3. Does it support fault detection for link monitoring in our network design?
Yes, we provide LFP support, including Link Fault Pass-Through for indicating a failure on the transmitting path of the FX receiving circuitry. Our FX port also supports Far End Fault, which helps us simplify troubleshooting during installation and maintenance.

Q4. Can this unit pass VLAN traffic and larger Ethernet frames without modification?
The device supports transparent forwarding of 802.1Q VLAN tagged packets and can transmit extra-long packets up to 1600 bytes. For systems using managed switching or uplinks from top network switch manufacturers, we position it as a stable media conversion option.

Q5. What forwarding mode does the converter use, and does it require calibration or regular adjustment?
Store-and-forward and transparent transmission are both supported by the unit. Our product information does not specify any calibration requirement, so we recommend deployment according to the listed port, fiber, and distance parameters. This makes it a practical companion to selected transceiver links.
